WELCOME TO ORTOFFICINA

THIS IS NOT A FARM, BUT AN EXPERIENCE OF HARMONY WITH NATURE, OF HUMAN HEALTH AND WELL-BEING, OF RESPECT FOR OUR PLANET.

STEINER AND BIODYNAMIC AGRICULTURE

Rudolf Steiner, founder of Steiner medicine and Waldorf education, gave life to biodynamics in 1924 - he wanted to set farmers free from chemical products in fertilisation and plant protection.

The biodynamic agriculture movement, successfully spread today throughout the world, works to guarantee the decontamination of the Earth and the renewal of agriculture, according to these objectives:

  • •keep the land fertile from one cultivation to the next
  • keep plants healthy without using any chemical substances
  • produce ingredients rich in active ingredients and nutrients

A GLIMPSE AT OUR PROJECT

A GLIMPSE AT OUR PROJECT

A GLIMPSE AT OUR PROJECT

OrtOfficina is our farm, covering over 50,000 sq m, that applies the bio-dynamic method, where we grow the medicinal herbs.

The deep bond with nature and the complete respect of its rhythms lead us to put an end to the use of synthetic mineral fertilisers and chemical pesticides and to manage the land following the cosmic and lunar cycles, based on an astronomical calendar.

Thyme, sage, lavender and rosemary are our extensive crops.

A part of our 0 km essential oils, distillates and micronised extracts originate from these medicinal herbs.

ECOSYSTEM
ECOSYSTEM

THE FARM AS ECOSYSTEM

According to the biodynamic method, the farm is perceived as a living organic unit, where several other organisms that make it up (forest, meadow, fields, garden, animals, plants, hedges, fruit trees, useful insects, compost pile, humus, earthworms) work in harmony, vivifying it through their different ecological functions and making the system dynamic and productive.

The farmer has a role of great responsibility, as spiritual principle who orders and organises the entire activity of the system.

His action must be based on the knowledge of all the requirements of the farm organism (climate, annual precipitation, exposure to the sun, soil, local population, etc.), on the daily observation of the interaction between all the living beings present and on the consideration of the close dialogue that exists between the earth and the cosmos.

BIODYNAMIC PREPARATIONS

BIODYNAMIC PREPARATIONS

One of the main practices of biodynamics consists of spraying a biodynamic preparation on the ground, stimulating humus-forming processes in the soil.

There are three starting elements:

  • Ground horn silica
  • Cow horn manure
  • Fladen - based on manure, egg shells and basalt

to which the compost preparations are added, starting from medicinal herbs.

 SOIL VITALITY

In this way the soil is kept at its maximum level of fertility, making it suitable for cultivations capable of growing healthy and viable with absolutely no chemical substances.

WATER DYNAMISATION

WATER DYNAMISATION

Dynamisation is a fundamental practice of biodynamic agriculture. It consists of making some substances active through their dilution and strong interpenetration with water through vigorous stirring.

The dynamisation of the biodynamic preparations to be supplied occurs by stirring the water with a rotating movement, alternating clockwise and counterclockwise.

The water is thus charged with energy, movement and oxygen to dynamise the preparations we spray on the fields.

OUR PROJECT IN 5 POINTS

OUR PROJECT IN 5 POINTS

  1. OrtOfficina is a farm, covering over 50,000 sq m, that applies the bio-dynamic method.
  2. WE EXTENSIVELY CULTIVATE 4 HERBACEOUS PLANTS FOR PRODUCTIVE PURPOSES and another 18 for teaching purposes.
  3. We sow, harvest and process the medicinal herbs to obtain active ingredients.
  4. The main biodynamic ingredients are essential oils, distillates and pure micronised plants.
  5. OrtOfficina is perceived as an ecosystem, where human beings, plants and animals live in synergy and harmony.

OUR INGREDIENTS

From our direct cultivation, connected with our territorial characteristics, we obtain a part of valuable ingredients that will become active ingredients of our green chemistry formulas. The other biodynamic and organic ingredients are purchased from other certified crops, such as southern Italy citrous (bergamot, lemon, orange).

Pure essential oils, steam distilled from the dried biodynamic plants, without solvents - we use them as active ingredients and as completely natural fragrances, abolishing synthetic fragrances.Distillates, waters derived from the distillation of essential oils, especially rich in functional properties - we use them as ingredients in our stylings and treatments.

Micronised pure plants which are cold ground (without solvents), to maintain their properties intact - we use them as functional principles in our specific skin treatments
